Around the Courts: April Newsletter

Summertime in Sight!

Hello everyone! It is hard to believe, but, as I’m writing this, we are almost officially done with our school season. Congratulations to Fort Walton Beach High School, Bruner Middle School, and Liza Jackson for great seasons. Although the school season is winding down, things are just starting to heat up at the courts for summertime. The start of summer camps is rapidly approaching, and we are excited for another great camp season here at FWBTC!

Around the Courts

Welcome Cole Armstrong

We hired Cole Armstrong as a front desk attendant at the start of April, and he will be working during the evening on weekdays and Saturday mornings. Cole and the entire Armstrong family have been patrons of FWBTC for many years, and we are super excited to have him on staff before he departs for MIT in the fall. Cole was a 4-year varsity player on the FWBHS Vikings tennis team, and recently finished runner-up in the FHSAA Boy’s Doubles tournament! If you haven’t met him already, please stop by the shop and give him a big hello and welcome.

Junior Team Tennis

Thank you to all the juniors who have participated in the Okaloosa/Walton County JTT Spring Season! We have over 100 players in total in the league, and FWBTC has 4 teams total across all age groups. It has been awesome to see all the players learning and/or improving their games in the last month! The future for tennis is bright in our area, and I can’t wait to see all these kids for years to come competing on the courts.

Thank you Niceville and Liza Jackson

During the past month, we hosted both the High School District tournament and Middle School County tournament here at FWBTC. These tournaments are long days and lots of hard work, but it is an honor to help support and grow junior tennis in the area. Thank you to Niceville High School and Liza Jackson, their coaches, and volunteers for their efforts in running these awesome events!

May Happenings

Cinco De Mayo Mixer

We will be hosting another tennis mixer on Friday May 5th. Last year, we had over 30 participants, and we are hoping to see many of the same faces and new ones! The cost for the event is $15, and we will have tennis, food, and prizes for participants.

Summer Camps

All weeks of summer camp are active online! We will start camp on Monday June 5th, and it will run through Friday August 4th. Our summer camp is great for all ages and levels, and we will focus on instruction while also instilling a love for tennis with games, prizes, and more! Closing Time

April is always one of our busiest months, but it is awesome seeing the courts packed with players. With all the junior tennis I’ve watched in April, I know that the future is bright for tennis in Fort Walton Beach. Our goal at FWBTC and USTA Florida is to grow the sport of tennis, and we will continue to do everything in our power to support this effort. Thank you all for your continued support of the facility, and I can’t wait to see you on the courts!
